Help Credo raise $10,000 to support

El Paso's MLK Canned Food Drive

“There is nothing new about poverty.

What is new, however, is that we have the resources to get rid of it.”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Sunday, January 19, 2020, Credo will take part in a community-wide city celebration called, “Reconnecting Through Art.” This event is in cooperation with and in support of The Opportunity Center for the Homeless, a local nonprofit serving El Paso’s unsheltered.

The MLK Canned Food Drive of El Paso began in 2001 with a grant from the Corporation for National Service to the City of El Paso. The purpose of the grant was to create a project honoring Dr. King's legacy, as an act of kindness. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Food Drive is a way for all El Pasoans to remember and celebrate the life and work of Dr. King through service, giving and volunteerism. Non-perishable canned and dried foods collected at various sites throughout El Paso from January 6-17, 2011 are directly distributed to organizations serving the homeless children and families in need. This food helps to replenish empty pantries after the holidays.

Dr. Jonathan Palant, Credo’s founding conductor, hopes this program will help unite Texans in a very unique way. “We go to El Paso to offer friendship, peace, respite, and dignity to our brothers and sisters living closest to the U.S. / Mexican border. Be it residents, asylum seekers, new immigrants, or those reeling from a recent mass shooting, we know that music has the power to lift spirits and unite hearts.”

Every dollar counts and no donation is too small. Thank you for helping us feed those in need.

Thank you.
