For our celebratory 10th concert season, Credo has agreed to be in residence at the University of Texas at Dallas. As such, rehearsals will take place on campus inside UTD’s Jonsson Building’s Performance Hall. We are very excited to be able to welcome students into our ensemble, some of whom will be awarded credit for their participation. Our main-stage performances will remain at the Moody Performance Hall in Dallas’ Arts District, but we look forward to regularly singing on campus as well.
EL PASO / CIUDAD JUÁREZ – Two different community festivals will take place over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend with a goal to uniting people through music, art, and dance.
On Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, a free, family-friendly event titled, “Reunidos en arte”will take place in Ciudad Juárez at El Punto, an outdoor venue constructed for Pope Francis’ 2016 visit. Featured performers include Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestra and Chorus (Ciudad Juárez), Dallas’ Credo Community Choir, and a variety of ensembles from the University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas at El Paso. This festival also features opera legend Frederica von Stade and other special guests.
On Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM these same artists will travel to the historic El Paso County Coliseum (4100 E Paisano Drive across from the El Paso Zoo) for a second free, community-wide celebration called, “Reconnecting Though Art.” This event is in cooperation with and in support of The Opportunity Center for the Homeless, a local nonprofit serving El Paso’s unsheltered. Entry to this event is free with a donation the 20th Annual MLK Canned Food Drive. Food vouchers for those living on the streets will be provided.
Dr. Jonathan Palant, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Texas at Dallas and founding conductor of the Credo Community Choir, hopes these two programs will unite Texans in a very unique way. “We are eager to offer friendship, peace, respite, and dignity to our brothers and sisters living closest to the U.S. / Mexican border. Be it residents, asylum seekers, new immigrants, or those reeling from a recent mass shooting, we know that music has the power to lift spirits and unite hearts.” Palant says.
“We are delighted the Dallas community wants to forge a special bond with the residents of El Paso, and we are pleased these choirs will sing here in the borderland. Their help and their generosity is a gift beyond words.” Said John Martin, Deputy Director of the Opportunity Center for the Homeless.
Cecilia Levine, businesswoman and Esperanza Azteca co-founder says, “It is a wonderful gift of peace and friendship to welcome singers from Dallas to El Punto and Ciudad Juarez. We know this event will unite our communities in a very unique and special way.”
Visual artists from both The Opportunity Center (El Paso) and The Stewpot (Dallas) will display their work and have it available for purchase.
These events are free of charge with a nonperishable donation to the 20th Annual MLK Canned Food Drive benefiting El Paso’s homeless community. Hot/cold drinks and food will be available for purchase.

CREDO CHOIR TO PRESENT
IT’S OUR TIME: SONGS OF FAITH, PROMISE, AND ACCORD
DALLAS – Credo Choir, a Dallas-based adult choir, will present “It’s Our Time: Songs of Faith, Promise, and Accord” on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the Moody Performance Hall (2520 Flora Street, Dallas, Texas 75201).
Tickets $20-35 available at TicketDFW.com or by calling (214) 871-5000.
At the center of all choral music is the text we sing. “It’s Our Time” explores ideas and principles we, as Credo Choir and as members of a shared community, respect and aspire to. From Bach’s chorale, “Es ist genug (It is enough)” to Shawn Kirchner’s setting of the Bluegrass tune, “I’ll Be On My Way,” this concert will feature a diverse set of music and a rich depth of concept and meaning. Other featured composers include: Sweet Honey and the Rock founder, Ysaye M. Barnwell, George Frederic Handel, Ken Medema, Felix Mendelssohn, Max Janowski, Stephen Sondheim, a world premiere by Dallas-based composer Debra Scroggins, and more.
Dr. Jonathan Palant, Credo’s founder and conductor, remarks, “This concert is distinct in that pieces link together without pause. Texts relate to tell our story, but musical genres vary greatly throughout. At the center of this performance is the premiere of “Let Our Voice Be Heard” by Dallas native, Debra Scroggins. Commissioned by Credo, this work is both empowering and inspiring. I’m very proud of this program and know our audiences will enjoy it and be moved by it.”
Please help Credo in our effort to provide clean, dry socks for those homeless men, women, and children displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

Dallas – The Dallas Street Choir joins Credo Community Choir with conductor Dr. Jonathan Palant on an historic 8-day East Coast tour with performances in Carnegie Hall and the Washington National Cathedral. The two choirs will perform at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. According to Carnegie Hall archivist, Gino Francesconi, never in its 126-year history has a musical ensemble comprised solely of those experiencing homelessness appeared at Carnegie Hall.
Guest soloists for this performance include longtime Dallas Street Choir friend and collaborator, world-renowned mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, soprano Harolyn Blackwell, composer and pianist Jake Heggie, and composer of Broadway hit musicals Wicked, Godspell, and Pippin, Stephen Schwartz.
To commemorate the occasion, Ms. von Stade, with the combined choirs, will premiere Jake Heggie’s new setting of “Spinning Song” by nineteenth-century American composer, Hub Miller. Heggie, who has dedicated this work to the Dallas Street Choir, will accompany from the piano. Legendary Broadway composer, Stephen Schwartz will perform music from Wicked. Rounding out the evening will be music of hope and inspiration mixed with personal stories of strength and courage.
The Dallas Street Choir is proud to work with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute to support New York City’s homeless community in this endeavor by welcoming to the stage the choir from Valley Lodge, a New York City transitional shelter and one of 24 buildings owned and operated by The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. In addition, 300 tickets to this concert have also been donated to the New York City Department of Homeless Services so that New York’s homeless community can attend free of charge. Valley Lodge and the NYC Department of Homeless Services have been valued partners to Carnegie Hall through WMI’s Musical Connections program.

On June 15, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., the Dallas Street Choir and Credo combine for an evening of sacred music at the Washington National Cathedral (3101 Wisconsin Avenue NW). Concert repertoire will include music by Rachmaninoff, Wilberg, Gjeilo, and Hagenberg. World-renowned mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade joins this performance singing music by Handel, Poulenc, and Schubert. This concert is free and open to the public.
Dr. Jonathan Palant, founder and director of both Credo and the Dallas Street Choir, says, Credo performed with the Dallas Street Choir when they made their debut early in 2015, and we are thrilled to once again to share the stage with them this June, and in such grand fashion! Members of the Dallas Street Choir who desired to travel completed an extensive application process. The 22 singers who will join the nearly 85 from Credo are a shining example of the choir’s mantra, “Homeless, Not Voiceless.””
